Polytechnic Institute of Guarda

 

The project to implement higher education in the Guard dates back to the 70s. However, it was necessary to wait until 1979 for it to be created School of Education (ESE), later incorporated into the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. Created in 1980 through Decree-Law 303/80 of 16 August, the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG) only at the end of 1985 sees traced their bases definitive implementation.
The dynamics of the process developed since then will allow, in 1986, the beginning of teaching ESS? who began teaching courses in Childhood Education and Teacher of Basic Education, with variants of Physical Education, Music Education and Portuguese-French. The following year, the School of Technology and Management (ESTG) also began his teaching activity.
The IPG was one of the first higher education institutions to see approved its statutes, approved by legislative order n. 765/94, published in Diário da República (Official Gazette no. No. 273, Series IB) on 25 November. Thus, it was legally constituted as a legal person of public law, endowed with statutory, scientific, educational, administrative, financial, and disciplinary heritage.
The IPG was to date, consists of two colleges.
By Decree-Law n. º 480/88 of 23 December, the Nursing Education was integrated into the Polytechnic. The September 15, 1989, the School of Nursing, through Ordinance no. º 821/89, was converted into Nursing School (ESEnf). It was through the publication of Decree-Law n. º 99/2001, of 28 March, the ESEnf under the exclusive tutelage of the Ministry of Education, was integrated into the IPG.
In 1999, they created the School of Tourism and Telecommunications, implmentada in the city of Seia.
