School of Artillery and Mitre

In 1641 appears the military education in Portugal, with the creation of the School of Artillery and Mitre. In the reign of D. Maria I, in 1790, created the Royal Academy of Fortification, Artillery and design, establishing a school of truly scientific basis. In 1837 changed its name to the Military School at the initiative of the Marquis de Sá da Bandeira. During the corresponding period of the First World War, in 1911, changed its name to the School of War. In 1919 was renamed to Military School (resulting from the evolution of Military Sciences caused by the First World War). In 1938 he is again adopted the name of the Military School. With the organization and evolution resulting from the progressive and rapid development and application of science to the military camp in 1959 has been renamed to Military Academy.
